The Special Political and Decolonization Committee (also known as the Fourth Committee) is one of the six vital organs of the United Nations, primarily dealing with issues associated with decolonisation, peacekeeping operations and special political missions as well peaceful uses of outer space. The committee has overseen the decolonisation of over eighty countries and has recognised fifteen self-governing territories since, focusing now more on disarmament and regional security.
